Animals …
The Big Guys

I am amazed by animals that seem bigger than life, that are intimidating and fascinating to watch from a reasonable distance. Here are some of the big guys I spotted in the desert outside Riyadh, the Rocky Mountains around Boulder, the open range of Wyoming, the wetlands of Florida, and, having never been to Africa, at the Denver Zoo.

Be sure to click/tap on photos for a closer view. And check out Birds and Humans+.

How about birds?

Bird Bites

Birds spend a lot of time shopping for meals, eating left-overs, and snacking.  Some, like eagles and ospreys, look for fresh, grab-and-go fish while vultures scan for whatever is dead, and smaller birds whoof down bugs.

Bird Antics

I don’t know if some birds are a bit whacky or if I’m goofy and see them differently than other humans.  Maybe a mixture of both.

Bird Flyers

Flying is easy.  All you need to do is lift your wings, push off hard from the ground or from water over some distance, angle the wings, flap like crazy, and believe you can rise up into the sky. Oh yeah, then there’s landing, too.

Bird Beauties

Shooting to capture “the moment” with birds is a challenge.  Larger birds will sometimes pose unlike smaller, twitchy and frenetic birds. But whatever the bird, their beauty is certainly worth the effort.

Bird Kids

Cute in their own ways, always spunky, always hungry, often demanding, sometimes sleepy, bird babies are a delight to watch as they mature.
